Training written by someone still shipping code

I build web applications for clients, and I coach the people who want to do this for a living. The material here comes out of that work, not out of a syllabus.

Why this exists

I kept seeing the same pattern. People arrive with certificates and a framework or two, then struggle with the ordinary things: reading code someone else wrote, writing a query that still works when the table grows, explaining a decision in a review, shipping something and supporting it afterwards.

None of that is difficult to learn. It is just rarely taught, because it is slow to teach and it does not fit neatly into a recorded video.

What that means in practice

  • Examples come from real projects, not invented ones.
  • Assignments are the kind of task you would actually be given.
  • Someone reads what you submit and replies to it.

What I teach

Two stacks in depth, the front end that sits on top of both, and the working practice that is assumed on your first day.

C#

Microsoft stack

C#, ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core and Entity Framework — structure, security, migrations and query performance.

PHP

PHP and platforms

Modern typed PHP, WordPress plugin and theme development, and CodeIgniter for a lighter look at MVC.

Web

Front end

HTML, CSS and JavaScript — semantics, grid and flexbox, closures and asynchrony, with accessibility included rather than bolted on.

SQL

Data

Joins, indexes and reading a query plan. The part most self-taught developers skip, and the part that decides whether an application survives its first thousand users.

Git

Working practice

Git and GitHub, pull requests and code review, debugging and deployment. Assumed on day one, taught almost nowhere.

AI

AI for developers

Where these tools genuinely help, where they quietly cost you time, and how to review output you did not write.

Why one coach rather than a faculty

There is an obvious limitation. I can only review so many assignments in a week, so replies take a few working days rather than minutes.

The trade is that the person answering your question is the person who wrote the lesson, and what you are taught on Monday is what I was doing on Friday.

What I will not claim

No placement guarantee. I would be wary of anyone offering one.

What I can tell you is what a course covers, roughly how long it takes, and what you will have built by the end. If a course is not right for you, say so and I will point you somewhere better, including elsewhere.

Not sure where to start?

Tell me where you are now and what you want to be able to do. I will suggest an order, and say honestly if these courses are not the right fit.
